Narrowing it down to Stormfiber Vs Transworld

Assalam o Alaikum all,

I will be returning to my hometown by the mid of this month and the first thing I'm going to do is get a good fiber optic internet connection!

Now I've done a bucket load of research here on this forum, I've read numerous threads and also read some stuff elsewhere, the 2 companies that I'm interested are Stormfiber and Transworld and luckily, both of these provide service in my area! (y)

So before we start discussing which one should I go for, I will lay down my requirements about what I'll be doing:

1. Downloading content.
2. Video/Movie streaming (YouTube, Netflix etc).
3. Online gaming (most important to me) (GTA Online, CSGO I play mainly).
4. Everything else a person does on the internet.

I have seen some good reviews of both Stormfiber and Transworld. In the beginning I decided to go for Fiberlink but then I was suggested by some guys that its not a good option.

What I'm mainly concerned about is the latency for online gaming and the speed for video streaming.

Since I'm a Software Engineer, I already know about DNS settings and networking stuff. If someone of you could tell me which of these 2 companies provide less latency for online gaming in a detailed manner and provide me some knowledge, I will greatly appreaciate it

Thank you and all help is appreciated.

Let the discussion begin!

Same queery by me
PTCL has its own links to the outside world which are redundant but sometimes, their routing is messed up.

Transworld has its own links to the outside world, and while latencies (it seems) is better on TW1 for a handful of games/sites (though most are at par with each other), some addresses are worse on TW1.

Both PTCL and TW1 are tier 1 companies.

Stormfiber, like half the other ISPs in Pakistan, use both PIE (PTCL) and TW1, so these ISPs can give you better redundancy than the tier one companies, since they have diversified links. And lately, I've heard Stormfiber are using PTCL instead of TW1 (as are COMSATS, Multinet and a few others), so it's practically moot.

My advice would be to opt for Stormfiber. You won't have issues with billing (@murtaza12 can PM you his ordeal), and if you're lucky, they probably already have optimum routes configured at their end. And they'll be more redundant than both TW1 or PTCL alone.

StormFiber gets its bandwidth from both PTCL and Transworld, and previously you could email their customer support to get your routing changed to lower latency in games. However, it seems like they've shifted everyone to PTCL now. Routing towards most game servers is quite messed up, 200-300 ms for some Asian and European servers. Not at all ideal.

Transworld themselves on the other hand generally have pretty good latency to most game servers. Their customer support is decent, and have an adequate understanding of networking terms, so explaining something about high latency in games isn't a headache like it is with PTCL.

For downloading and streaming, both of them are fine and will easily do the job.

However, Transworld's billing is really something. Read the Transworld thread here on PG, I posted my experience with them in reply to a post from [MENTION=63376]shaheerk[/MENTION].

If you've got any Transworld related questions though, let me know and I'll try and answer them.

So to be specific, If I opt for StormFiber, I will get good latency to gaming servers most of the time?

Once I get the connection, I will probably use it along with Google's Public DNS or Cloudflare DNS configured directly into the router. I believe this will also have a significant reduction in the gaming and browsing experience.

Not really. You'll get good latency when PTCL gets good latency, which is rare.

DNS makes a minimal difference on gaming. Browsing will obviously feel faster / slower depending on which DNS server is quicker and whichever one you get lower latency to.

Well considering that GTA Online only has servers in the US, I will always have high latency.

What about competitive games like CSGO and PUBG? I mainly play CSGO competitive and PUBG too. Like I don't want to be a turd with an unstable connection every time I go online to play, I want to have a most of the time stable connection which I think is impossible to get?

Not sure about CSGO or PUBG.

You could ask in the StormFiber thread if anyone plays those games.

GTA Online was always stable for me on PTCL, and it still is on Transworld as well, so you shouldn't have any issues with it.

What pings do you get on dxb.valve.net?

Got it installed 1 week ago, awesome service, the tech team is efficient in their matters and responsive in resolving an issue, the speeds are consistent so far and the experience overall is very smooth.

As far as pings for gaming are concerned, getting 15-20ms for CSGO Dubai server. GTA 5 haven't tested. But PUBG Mobile I'm having slow performance, the lowest ping comes on the Europe server and even that is 100-150ms, the signal bars are yellow and thankfully not red. Anyone know any solution or service which reduces ping for gaming, PUBG specifically?

Overall I'm satisfied.

Around 100-105 to SGP.
How? I'm getting 200+ on SGP.

Go here, copy any of the IPs from Singapore and post a trace route.

This is what I got from ping.eu traceroute:

Code:
Traceroute – Traces the route of packets to destination host from our serverIP address or host name:

traceroute to 3.0.0.9 (3.0.0.9), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

No reply for 5 hops. Assuming we reached firewall.

Other functions:

Ping | Traceroute | DNS lookup | WHOIS | Port check | Reverse lookup | Proxy checker | Bandwidth meter | Network calculator |
I used my phone for this because have no pc atm.
