[h=1]Valve delays summer Steam Game Festival[/h]

Rescheduled for June 16

Valve’s impending Steam Game Festival, originally scheduled to begin June 9, has been delayed by one week. The “Summer Edition” of the Steam event will now run June 16-22, Valve said in a news release.
The summer version of the Steam Game Festival was supposed to take place during what would have been the week of E3. Valve promises time-limited demos or “short playable experiences” from upcoming games, and a chance to connect with participating developers of those games, during the event.

Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition was the third such event coming to Steam. Theinaugural event coincided with Geoff Keighley’s annual The Game Awards show, and ran for 48 hours. A spring edition of the event ran in March, during what would have been the annual Game Developers Conference, which was canceled due to concerns related to the spread of COVID-19.
Valve didn’t specify why it was delaying the event, but it’s likely because of the ongoing anger, unrest, and protests over the killing of George Floyd, the man who died at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25. Since Floyd’s death, thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of cities large and small, and to destinations online, to denounce violent policing tactics and to shine a light on the racism and systemic inequality that disadvantages and cuts short black lives in the United States. Game companies, including Sony Interactive Entertainment, Activision, Epic Games, and Electronic Arts, have subsequently delayed product announcements and seasonal game updates as attention is rightfully focused elsewhere.

[h=1]Steam purchases now earn Points that can buy avatars and profile rewards[/h]

Spend money, earn points, spend points on other users

Steam has introduced a new meta-currency for users to earn, called Points. Whenever a user buys a game, DLC, Valve hardware, application, soundtrack, or in-game items, they will earn 100 Points per U.S. dollar spent.
Users can spend Points on a variety of things through Steam, including animated avatars, backgrounds for their shop, and animated chat emoticons. They can also reward other users for useful Workshop items or well-written Steam reviewers by donating their Points.
Valve says that the Points Shop is “here to stay”, and any bonuses unlocked through Points are permanent additions to a user’s profile. However, items purchased via Points cannot be sold via the marketplace or traded.
Some of these awards are quite handsome, like Portal-themed borders for a player’s avatar, or an animated emoticon of cartoon Geralt hopping and scrubbing in his bubble bath. There are lines of rewards associated with popular games, ranging from emotional platformer Gristo demon-slaying FPS Doom Eternal. There are indie titles like Disco Elysium represented with their own emoticons, side-by-side with Valve’s biggest hits like Dota 2 and CS:GO.

Steam has broke 120million active monthly users in 2020, in comparison playstation network has 102 million active monthly users and xbox live had 90million across Xbox PC and mobile
The info in that tweet regarding PSN's monthly active users in 2020 is a little off. There were 114 million users who each spent ~$114 on average on PSN in 2020 (excluding spending on services such as PS Plus and PS Now) as per Sony's fiscal report. Did Valve reveal what average spending figure they use to determine Steam monthly active users?

Phil should be held responsible for this shitfest too, just like Sarah, but it's highly likely that these decisions are coming from Satya. And this isn't even the end of it. More closures are coming.

if we are moving towards more and more popular trash across platforms that make billions for companies, I'm happy with all the barriers and exclusivity because at least that brings some pressure to create good stuff.

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

MS one upping Sony in catching the biggest L in gaming
tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
