bit interesting to see how Honda will prove to be much aggressor while re/teamed up with Maclaren.

Alonso airlifted to hospital

Fernando Alonso's manager, Luis Garcia Abad, has assured the F1 community that the Spaniard is "ok" after he was airlifted to hospital following a crash on Sunday.

The double World Champion smashed into the wall between Turns 3 and 4 shortly before the midday lunch break on the final day of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

He was immediately rushed to the circuit's medical centre by ambulance before being transferred to the Hospital General de Catalunya via helicopter for further checks.

Fernando Alonso out of Australian GP

McLaren's Fernando Alonso will miss the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on 15 March on medical advice.

Doctors have advised the 33-year-old Spaniard, who crashed in testing on 22 February, not to risk a second concussion by racing in Melbourne.

Alonso tweeted: "It will be tough not to be in Australia, but I understand the recommendations."
The two-time champion's place will be taken by 22-year-old Dane Kevin Magnussen, McLaren's reserve driver.

Eric Boullier also confirmed that Alonso is disappointed not to be in the car for the Australian Grand Prix next weekend but his health is coming first

McLaren have confirmed that Fernando Alonso did suffer temporary memory loss following his crash at Barcelona testing.

Alonso was reported to have believed that he was in the year 1995 at the point he regained consciousness after being knocked out as his McLaren hit the track wall at the Circuit de Catalunya.

"I'm Fernando, I'm in karts and want to become Formula 1 driver," Alonso told doctors, according to Le Pais newspaper.

Damn man, I read same thing 2 days back
It's a huge loss for the game n for his fans n for mclaren also.
Let's hope he gets well soon enough we have already lost a bright talent Robert Kubica in 2011, not Alonso this time.

What a boring race, Mercedes's year again this. Ferrari seems to be the clear 2nd best in the paddock now, good on them and McLaren (one of em) at least finished the race :tv:

They somewhat did make a blunder by pitting under the safety car but what's noticeable is that Ferrari is very light on its tyres where as the Merc isn't. This should help Ferrari a lot on warmer tracks but might cause em an issue on colder tracks like the one in the next race. The ambient in Shanghai is around ~20C.

Anyways, I am still not convinced Ferrari have the raw pace to beat the Mercs, interesting few races ahead. Glad to see Ferrari back and Vettel winning, I am sure Michael would be proud

If I recall correctly, 2013 Merc was very hard on its tyres as well. This seems to be an inherent trait in all Merc cars :crazy:

Correct. In-fact the 2013 Mercs were the worst on tyres. 4 or 5 laps into the stint and the usual radio message was "left-rear is gone!!" :crazy:

Sad news indeed. He was in line to replace Raikonnen imo. And he was good enough as well.

They did form a commission to investigate this issue with Ross Brawn as the head, which determined that firstly, Jules was carrying too much speed, and secondly - applied brakes and throttle simultaneously that resulted in over-ride of the safety mechanisms. It also resulted in the virtual safety car, and some other rule changes.

had there been no recovery vehicle Jules owuld have hit the wall barrier n other things n could have even hit the other car but his head injusry happened just becuase he hit the underside of that recovery
i wish in future they emply bigger cranes which recover cars from outside the track n there is as little movement as possible on the track. Nevertheless F1 is getting safer an safer this was an unfortunate incident as it was his time. Imagine car crashes happening at NASCAR

This thread will serve as PG's hub for all things F1. Now onto the season itself, Charlie was a pussy waiting around so much for Quali but the race was pretty awesome. Especially Ricciardo's overtakes on Raikkonen and Perez. The Ferrari's were nowhere to be found, I can't believe they were so much off the pace. I was rooting for a Daniel, or long shot Ocon or Stroll podium but oh well.

What do you guys think of McLaren securing Renault power? Should they stick with Honda? I'm personally conflicted as being my favorite team, I want them to perform better with Honda, as they are the defacto works team but Honda have proven to be so fucking incompetent. Spec 3.7 was +4BHP and some 2 tenths faster I think but they got annihilated at Monza. Singapore will suit them better, but Spec 4 is now being touted as a very major upgrade in both performance reliability terms. Still though, that doesn't fix the problem and McLaren really need to be a podium challenging team by next season.
